1. Information We Do Not Collect
AffiliScan is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, store, or transmit:
Your name, email address, or any personal information
Your browsing history or YouTube watch history
Your Amazon account details or affiliate credentials
Any financial information
Analytics or usage data
2. How the Extension Works
AffiliScan operates entirely within your browser. Here is exactly what it does:
Reads YouTube descriptions — only when you click "Scan Description" on a YouTube video tab. It reads only the video description to find Amazon affiliate links.
Fetches Amazon pages — it makes direct requests to Amazon product pages to check if links are working. These requests go directly from your browser to Amazon, not through any server we control.
Uses YouTube Data API — for bulk scanning, it calls the YouTube Data API to fetch video descriptions. This uses a public API key and does not require or access your Google account.
Local storage only — all scan results are saved in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device.
3. Permissions Explained
AffiliScan requests the following Chrome permissions:
activeTab — to read the current YouTube video tab when you click Scan
scripting — to inject the content script that reads the video description
storage — to save scan results locally in your browser
tabs — to find the active YouTube tab
4. Third-Party Services
The extension interacts with the following third-party services:
Amazon.com and regional Amazon sites — to check if affiliate links are working
YouTube Data API v3 (Google) — for bulk scanning playlists and channels
These services have their own privacy policies. We do not share any data with them beyond what is necessary to check link status.
5. Children's Privacy
AffiliScan is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
